Prepping for your Spray Tan
Please note, the more steps you follow, the better results you will get!
1. Schedule Other Services First
-
Plan services like hair, lashes, nails, waxing, facials, and massages 24–48 hours before your spray tan. This prevents other treatments from interfering with your results. (A polish change can be done after your first rinse if needed.
2. Exfoliate & Shave 1 Day Prior
-
Gently exfoliate and shave at least 24 hours before your appointment to remove dead skin cells or old tan. I recommend using an exfoliating mitt, available at Luxe or HERE.
-
Pay special attention to areas with adhesives (like bandages or sticky residue) as they can linger for days.
-
Do not use Tree Hut or other scrubs that will leave a residue on your skin.
3. Hydrate Inside & Out
-
Drink plenty of water
-
Moisturize your skin with a quality lotion 2–3 times a day leading up to your tan.
-
Avoid applying lotion on the day of your tan.
-
Hydration is essential for a smooth, long-lasting glow.
4. Arrive with Clean Skin
-
If needed, shower with water only (no soap or body wash) at least 4 hours prior to your appointment. Showering too close to your tan time can cause uneven results.
-
Wipes will be available to remove makeup or deodorant if necessary.
5. Clothing
-
Wear or bring loose-fitting, dark clothing (like long sleeves and pants) and flip-flops for after your tan.Avoid restrictive items like leggings, shorts, bras, or anything that may rub against your fresh tan.
-
During the spray tan you can wear as much or as little as you want. Disposable bras & thongs are available. If you would like to wear your own undergarments or swimsuit you can! Men must wear at minimum a speedo.
6. Jewelry
-
Please remove jewelry before your appointment and avoid putting it back on until after your first rinse.
-
Permanent jewelry can remain on during your tan.

Taking Care of your Spray Tan
Please note, the more steps you follow, the better results you will get!
Before Your 1st Rinse
Avoid Water, Sweating, & Skin-to-Skin Contact
Moisture of any kind can interfere with your developing tan.
-
Avoid water, sweating, cooking, dishes, laundry, rain, pet & human kisses, and giving baths until your first rinse.
-
ONLY drink through a straw. If you eat, choose non-messy, non-saucy foods.
-
Refrain from touching, scratching, or rubbing your skin.
-
If you sleep in your tan, wear long sleeves and pants to minimize skin-to-skin contact.
1st Rinse
-
Rinse with lukewarm water until the water runs clear.
-
NO SOAP during your first rinse.
-
Pat yourself dry—do not rub with your towel.
-
If you notice streaks (likely just bronzer), get back in the shower and gently buff the area with your hand to even it out.
-
Apply a spray tan safe lotion all over after your rinse.
-
After rinsing, you can return to normal life, but avoid anything listed below to protect your results.
Maintenance
-
After 24 hours, you may use spray tan safe soap.
-
When shaving, use a new men’s razor for the gentlest touch.
-
Moisturize with lotion 2–3 times daily to extend the life of your tan.
-
It's best to wait 24 hours after your tan to workout.
Avoid (During the Life of Your Tan)
-
Aerosol products (sunscreen, bug sprays, aerosol deodorant)
-
Mineral Oil, Petroleum, & Alcohol (found in many lotions and products like Dove, EOS, Bath & Body Works, etc.)
-
Loofahs, washcloths, hot tubs, baths, adhesives (they can strip your tan!)
-
Tight jewelry (like watches) & clothing (bras, jeans, etc) can cause exfoliation.
A quick reminder:
The more you follow these steps, the better the results & the fade will be and longer your tan will last!
